Press Freedom Defense Fund Statement on Jim Acosta

The Press Freedom Defense Fund issues a firm and unequivocal condemnation of President Trump’s escalating attacks against journalists, following the suspension of CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta’s press pass and the release of a doctored video to justify those actions.

Jim Acosta’s line of questioning, correlating the President’s rhetoric with its effect on white supremacist groups, was both topical and incisive – and President Trump’s inability to engage with his argument is highly concerning. It is also alarming that Trump has done nothing to separate himself from hate groups, even amidst the rise of domestic terrorist attacks.

The White House’s recent retaliation against Mr. Acosta is a strategic assault on press freedoms, a threat to the U.S. constitution and an affront to America’s core values.
